Hello friends, in this article today, we are going to give a full review of OnePlus Watch 2R, which is a cheaper version of the premium OnePlus Watch 2. OnePlus Watch 2 was launched this year and its design, strong build, good performance, special dual operating system and long battery life were highly praised. OnePlus Watch 2R has also maintained all these good things.
Not many changes have been made in this new model. OnePlus Watch 2R is the same watch as OnePlus Watch 2, there are just some minor differences. Now the question is whether these small changes can make it a different model. Let’s know it in detail.
OnePlus Watch 2R Display
The OnePlus Watch 2R also has the same display as the OnePlus Watch 2 smartwatch, which has a 1.43-inch AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 60Hz and a resolution of 466 x 466. The display on the Watch 2R looks and works just like the Watch 2’s display.
We noticed that the Watch 2R’s display was slightly brighter and had slightly different colors, but this could just be a difference between different units. Both displays are good, but they need a bit more brightness in bright sunlight.
OnePlus Watch 2R Design & Look
Talking about its design, it is very similar to the OnePlus Watch 2. Its shape and size are almost the same, with a large round display and two side buttons. However, the Watch 2 had a crown-like button that rotated when twisted, but it had no controls. On the other hand, the Watch 2R has two similar push buttons that do not rotate, making it a little easier to use..
The Watch 2R has two main differences in the body. First, its body is now made of brushed aluminum instead of polished stainless steel. Second, its glass is now flat, while the glass in the Watch 2 was slightly curved. These changes make its design look a little different.
The change from steel to aluminum has made the Watch 2R much lighter in weight. Without a strap, the Watch 2R weighs only 37 grams, while the Watch 2 weighed 49 grams. The light weight has made it comfortable for fitness and sleep tracking, as its weight is not felt while wearing it.
The one downside to using aluminum is that the Watch 2R no longer has the military-grade (MIL-STD-810H) certification that the Watch 2 had. But it still has IP68 and 5ATM ratings, making it water and dust resistant. This is a good thing, especially for those who want to wear it daily.
Finally, the flat glass on the Watch 2R helps hide the thick bezels, and it also features a two-tone chronometer design. This new design gives it a cleaner and sleeker look than the Watch 2.
Software Features & Performance
It uses Google’s Wear OS and RTOS (Real-Time Operating System), which work on Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 and BES2700 chipset. Both these systems together support all the features of the smartwatch and make the battery life longer, i.e. it lasts longer.
Overall, the software on this smartwatch is pretty good, it works just like any other Android smartwatch, and OnePlus’ RTOS supports it well, but there are a few things that could have been improved. For example, the crown-like button on the Watch 2 could have been replaced with a real crown button. This would have made scrolling through the user interface (UI) easier.
The Watch 2R gets 100 watch faces through the OHealth app, some of which are pre-installed. Some of these watch faces are available only in the Watch 2R, while some are exclusive to the Watch 2. However, it takes a little time to transfer watch faces. When the watch is connected to the OnePlus Open phone, it takes about 60 to 90 seconds.
Another thing is that OnePlus has again not included women’s health features like ovulation, fertility, and period tracking. Most of the OnePlus wearables do not have these features, only the Nord Watch had these features as it was a rebrand of a product made by another company. This is a bit surprising as this feature is very common in other smartwatches.
Despite all this, the OnePlus Watch 2R is a good smartwatch, but the lack of important health features for female users lets it down a bit. All the other features work well, and its design and battery life are also very good.
OnePlus Watch 2R Battery Life
The OnePlus Watch 2R has a 500mAh battery which has a very good battery backup. If you use it heavily, it can last up to 48 hours, with light use it can last up to 100 hours and in power saving mode it can last up to 12 days. When I used it with always-on display, SpO2 and heart rate tracking and GPS, it lasted about three days on a single charge.
Charging takes about an hour, and the charging puck is the same as the one in the Watch 2, which is small and can easily get lost. This smartwatch acts like a full Android device, but its battery life is very good. It lasts up to 2 days with normal use, 4-5 days with light use and if you use apps less, it can last about two weeks.
This battery life is very rare in the world of smartwatches. Very few people get such long battery life with full smartwatch features. OnePlus has improved the battery life making it a great option.
Price in India
The price of OnePlus Watch 2R is ₹ 14,999, which has been fixed for its sale. If we compare, the price of Watch 2 was ₹ 19,999 at the time of launch. That is, the price of Watch 2R is less than Watch 2, which proves that OnePlus has tried to make it affordable.
LTE variants are not available in both OnePlus Watch 2 and Watch 2R. This means that these smartwatches work only by connecting to your phone, and you cannot connect them directly to the mobile network.
Pros & Cons:
Pros:-
- Lightweight Design
- Bright Display
- Good Battery Life
- Overall Good Performance
Cons:-
- No LTE variant
- No measure cycle tracking
Conclusion:
OnePlus has done a great job with the new Watch 2R. The original Watch 2 was already a good and well-liked smartwatch, but it had two main problems: it was a bit heavy and it was overpriced.
The Watch 2R fixes both of these problems. It is lighter in weight, making it more comfortable to wear. It is also priced lower than the Watch 2, making it a more affordable option for people.
However, the Watch 2R has all the other features that the Watch 2 had, such as a good design, long battery life, and all the essential smartwatch features.
This means that most people will now choose the Watch 2R between the Watch 2 and the Watch 2R because it is lighter, cheaper, and just as good. Because of this, the Watch 2R proves to be a great smartwatch.
